Enhancing efficiency and experience using device integration workflow with Medanets
The Kymenlaakso wellbeing services county in South-East Finland will soon introduce a long-awaited solution that will save time and streamline care work. The workflow involves transfer of clinical observations from patient monitors to the EHR using Medanets. To achieve this, 100 GE Healthcare monitors and 24 Philips monitors will be connected to the Medanets solution. The data transfer is either fully automatic or the nurse validating data on Medanets before saving to EHR.
Automatic data transfer makes work faster and easier
In the Cardiac Monitoring and Examination Unit, data transfer will be fully automated from the Philips monitors via Medanets to the Lifecare EHR. “The nurses in this unit are constantly in front of the monitors. They can see both the monitors and the EHR, so they feel that validating the data via the Medanets app would be an unnecessary step in the process. The automatic data transfer, in turn, makes their work much easier and faster,” says Niina Forsström, project coordinator of the wellbeing services county.
In other units, where nurses are not constantly in front of the monitors, the monitor values are sent to the Medanets application for the nurse to check. After the nurse’s validation, the data is sent to the EHR. This procedure in the continuous monitoring workflow helps to ensure that any anomalies are detected and responded to as early as possible.
Ensuring technical and operational readiness for change
Before implementing the new solution, the wellbeing services county verifies the technical feasibility of the solution is and prepares the staff for the change in operational practices. They are also fine-tuning process guidelines. “We still need common guidelines for monitoring the patient records, deleting incorrect data, and what to do when the person overseeing the transfer of data is on break,” says Forsström.
