Sneak Peek: enhancements to EWS
We have implemented several new functionalities and improvements in the EWS feature, based on customer feedback. They can all be found in this article.
Support for partial EWS
The application can calculate the EWS score even if not all values are available. When the functionality is enabled, the application will count the EWS with the available values and indicate that the calculation is not complete. In practice, this means that the actual EWS can be higher than the result.
Patient-specific target values
When the functionality is enabled, the application shows the individual, patient-specific target for each value. For example, the application can specify the oxygen saturation target for COPD patients at 88–92% in the EWS calculation.
Role or location-specific clinical guidelines based on the calculation result
When the functionality is enabled, the clinical guidelines based on the EWS or the result of a clinical form can change, depending on the user’s role or location. For example, the guidelines can be different for a nurse and for a healthcare assistant. The guidelines can also differ between hospitals.
Role-based Decision prompts
When the feature is enabled, the displayed Medanets Decision prompts can change depending on the user’s role. For example, the app can show more specific instructions to a student than to a nurse. The prompts shown in connection with other features, such as Medanets Observation values, will also change depending on the EWS formula selected for the patient. For example, the prompts are different if the patient is pregnant.
Workflow logic
When the functionality is enabled, the application requires certain steps to be completed before moving on to the next one. For example, if the user wants to perform sepsis screening but the most recent EWS score is too old, the application instructs the user to complete the EWS first.
EWS reminder icons on the Dashboard
A small extension has been made to the Dashboard. When the extension is enabled, an orange or red symbol can appear next to the patient’s EWS score. Orange means that the patient’s EWS must be calculated within the next 15 minutes. Red means that the patient’s EWS calculation is late.
