The Wellbeing Services County of South Ostrobothnia – HYVAEP

The wellbeing services county of South Ostrobothnia has been using the Medanets mobile app since 2012. Today, the app is being used throughout Seinäjoki Central Hospital as well as at the Suupohja Social Welfare and Healthcare Centre. The features used are Medanets Observation values, Monitored patients, Clinical forms, Medication and Early Warning Score (EWS).

Making nurses’ work easier and improving patient safety

The mobile solutions make nurses’ work easier and streamline their processes. The ability to document and browse health records without even having to leave the patient’s room is key to these improvements. For example, the Observation values and Medication features ensure information is entered directly into the Electronic Health Record without duplication.

This makes nurses’ work faster and easier, with no need to document measurements in several places.

At Seinäjoki Central Hospital, the app has also helped with improving patient safety. The smooth flow of nearly real-time information is a key cornerstone of patient safety work. For example, Medanets Monitored patients and Clinical forms speed up the transfer of key patient information to the other members of a care team. Users describe the Medanets app as fast, accurate and easy to use.

“Precise, quick and data is transferred with a single click.”

“It’s easy and quick to use, you don’t even have to calculate the scores yourself.”

“The app guides us using our pre-set guidelines, and if needed we can change these in collaboration with Medanets.”

“The same measured parameter values are transferred to the Electronic Health Record for other uses.”

“You can see any trends in measurement results in the Electronic Health Record.”

As soon as measurements have been entered, the app shows the patient’s previous measurements, allowing the nurse to compare the two and see straight away if there is any trend.

Systematic evaluation of patients’ condition using EWS

The services county was one of the first to adopt Medanets’ EWS feature. The features of the app are always tailored to the customer’s wishes. For example, development suggestions put forward by nurses are taken into consideration and responded to in how the app works. More important than anything is developing the solution so that it works as seamlessly as possible with the nursing processes.

When new nursing practices were introduced, IT was asked by the intensive care unit to provide a solution for EWS documentation. Medanets’ technical solution perfectly complemented the application components that had already been acquired. The adaptability of the EWS feature to work with the required documentation parameters ensured the perfect support for nurses and doctors when making treatment decisions.
