Medanets wins Oulu Export Company of the Year 2025

”Our growth in exports has been driven by the fact that we’ve had to look beyond our immediate surroundings”, says CEO Juha-Matti Ranta.

The annual entrepreneurship awards are presented by the Board of Business Oulu. This year’s ceremony took place on 17 April at Oulu City Hall. Medanets was represented at the event by one of its founders and current Chairman of the Board, Tuomo Niemi, along with CTO Vesa Järvitalo.

A first win that feels especially meaningful

According to the CEO Juha-Matti Ranta, winning the company’s first-ever award in its 22-year history feels particularly meaningful. ”In the past, we’ve received honourable mentions and reached the finals in similar competitions, but this is the first time we’ve actually taken home the top prize,” Ranta says.

One aspect makes the recognition feel both rewarding and slightly surprising: ”We’ve never succeeded in securing our own regional wellbeing services county or its university hospital as a client. That’s something we need to reflect on ourselves, as we clearly haven’t managed to convince them. At the same time, this has pushed us to look further afield.”

Exports will remain central to future growth

The Export Company of the Year award recognises long-term, successful international business development. The recipient is a company that has significantly increased the share of exports in its turnover or made notable new openings in international markets.

Medanets’ solution has gained strong traction abroad.

”We haven’t generated any revenue from the Oulu region, yet around 120 hospitals currently use our mobile solution, with roughly half of them located outside Finland. The number of international hospitals will grow significantly in the coming years, as we already have orders from over 60 hospitals in Norway, England and Germany,” Ranta explains.

”Our growth is on a solid trajectory, and the outlook remains very positive. In 2025, our revenue reached €5.4 million, with 30% coming from international markets including Sweden, Norway, the UK and Germany. Going forward, most of our growth will continue to come from abroad, and the share of exports in our revenue will increase further,” Ranta concludes.
