Primary health care transitioned to the mobile era in Lahti region – direct patient work will increase and multidisciplinary collaboration will become more efficient
The long-standing desire of inpatient wards in primary health care was realised when the rehabilitation hospital Jalmari in Lahti region, Finland, deployed Medanets in April on two wards. The personnel experience is also expected to improve following the deployment.
Medanets has been used in specialised healthcare in the Lahti region for a long time. “The inpatient wards in primary healthcare have also been hoping for a mobile solution for a long time to make work easier and faster. The feedback we have heard from specialised healthcare has been positive. When the ICT department of the Päijät-Häme Joint Authority for Health and Wellbeing offered us an opportunity to be involved in expanding its use, we were willing right away,” says Päivi Mäkipää, assistant head nurse at the rehabilitation hospital.
The rehabilitation hospital’s solution package covers observation values, clinical forms for risk assessments, and EWS.

Daily, we conduct diverse assessments and measurements. We monitor pain, hydration and secretion activity. Medanets makes recording the indicators and all observations considerably faster.

“Risk indicators are an important part of assessing the holistic functional capacity of a geriatric patient,” Mäkipää says. According to Service Manager Anu Poikala, the deployment of Medanets is connected to a more comprehensive objective in developing care and operations.

Poikala adds that Medanets is well-suited to the region’s digital strategy; a good personnel experience is one of its objectives. “We are hoping that the employees will feel that we are using modern tools to support operations for the benefit of patients.”
Feedback from nurses has been consistently positive
The Medanets solution has received only positive feedback from nurses. “The feedback has been consistently positive – the app has made work easier and faster. We haven’t received any negative feedback. The user training, too, was smooth alongside work. The basics were quickly set up and running,” says Mäkipää.
Efficiency of multi-disciplinary work is increased
The solution also increases the efficiency of multi-disciplinary work. Bedside documentation makes it possible to transmit data in real time to the electronic health record, in which the attending physician views the measurement results. Patient safety is also increased.
Manual documentation and delays in data entry on a computer are omitted. The day-to-day multi-disciplinary care process becomes faster when data, documented once, is immediately available to all of the professionals caring for the patients. It also increases patient safety.
